In these painful days, the memories of some participations to OR conferences are coming to my mind: the stimulating discussions with Alberto and other colleagues, the walks all together, in a very friendly and human atmosphere ... I remember, in particular, the visit in Beijing some years ago, where I knew Alberto's wife and his father-in-law ... and I am very, very sad for such a premature loss. You are so special, Alberto. We''ll never forget you.

Words become very poor tools when used to describe a person like Alberto. Nevertheless I would like to mention his limpid integrity, his sincere love for life and nature and his ethical opposition to every form of violence, particularly to the vile killing of undefended living creatures euphemistically called “hunting”.
Alberto, I had a great time working with you and knowing you. You taught me many things, both scientific and otherwise. My sincere condolences to your family and friends, and I hope they find the strength to overcome such a sad and untimely loss.

The mountains capture the passion of special people. You were special, Alberto. The OR community has lost an extraordinary researcher and a wonderful person.

I'm sure you'll be having loads of fun scheduling the railways of Heaven and packing angels on the head of a pin to more-than-perfection optimality. You were sorely needed and will be sorely missed here on Earth, though.
I write with regret, given the tragic death of the engineer and Phd. Alberto Caprara, with whom I shared a few times in my Erasmus, he was always friendly and pleasant person, both in speech and in his act, the time to help you find the resignation of this irreparable loss, and is an example of strength for their friends, co-workers and family. Alberto has taken an unknown for us, the places that knew him know now, we only be forever in memory his smile or a word of support or sage advice.
That time is the best advice, the science has lost one of its greatest men.

I will miss Alberto's brilliant mind, his great sense of humour, and his infectious enthusiasm. He was a good friend to many and he will be greatly missed.
Ti ho conosciuto poco ma ricorderò sempre la tua umanità e simpatia. Sono poche le persone che con pochi gesti riescono a comunicare la tua profondità e generosità d'animo.
Alberto, Your lightness and enthusiasm is unforgettable for me, see you in "Marina Piccola"

I thought about the way I would like you to feel now. Well, I hope you feel like when, after having somehow fought against something, that being the proof of a theorem or a mountain to climb or the depth of the sea, you reach your goal, the exact moment when you are not tense any more but at the same time you are not proud yet for having succeeded, the moment when you look back at the road you have walked and simply feel free and a sense of total relief. I hope this is how you feel now.
