Il ricordo che ho di Alberto è di una persona intelligente, onesta, colta, ironica, limpida, solare, schietta, positiva. After more than one year here, I understood that the OR group of DEIS is family and works as a family. We will miss Alberto, who was for me a giant in all aspects.
This is a very sad news. Alberto attended all Aussois meetings, except this very last one. He gave a talk in every one and we all enjoyed the scientific content but also the jokes at the end towards the politics of Italy. We will miss you. Denis

I have been knowing Alberto's for years. It was a rarefied relationship made of occasional conversations and discussions, and of continuous admiration. He was the expert, I was the curious, and my curiosity never went unsatisfied.
I never really get to work with him until probably a couple of years ago. It has been wonderfully exciting: one of the experiences for which people like us do the job we do. The fact that all that is now over is simply wrong.

To Alberto, with gratitude for his contributions to the University of Bologna and to knowledge at large. We will miss you.
This was unexpected and tragic news. I have good memories of Alberto as a brilliant and energetic researcher, and as a very humane person. A truly saddening loss.
Alberto was an exceptional person, both as a researcher and as a friend. He was (and it is terrible having to write "was" instead of "is") not only a brilliant scientist but also an always honest and helpful colleague. I especially value his very clear opinion about the way scientific work should be carried out in all aspects. I will never forget the long walks we took together with Smokey in the hills around Bologna and the mountain tours in Aussois. A week after hearing this tragic news about his accident I still have think about Alby many times a day. Your smile will never be forgotten!
I am lost for words, Alberto. I see the grey item in my skype contacts, and it will never turn green again... The OR world is missing you. Take care, wherever you are now.
